Shared Reading

Shared reading is an effective instructional approach that enables a teacher to:

  • provide instruction to the entire class, focusing on the collective needs of the pupils and addressing any shared skills or knowledge gaps;

  • encourage participation and input from all pupils, including those who may feel less confident in contributing at a smaller group level;

  • monitor and assess the progress of the whole class, observing individual growth and understanding within the context of the collective learning experience; and

  • plan follow-up activities that extend beyond the shared reading session, promoting reading comprehension and fostering pupil independence.
